“I can understand if they were talking to a certain artist who just makes stupid music all the day long, you know, that doesn’t really say anything, but I try to say some shit. I definitely know it’s a hell of a responsibility when I have an older generation of fans. I’m trying to be clear what I mean in the music. I’m definitely trying to have that responsibility but at the same time, this is my way of strapping up my bombs and committing a so-called terrorist act against an enemy that has been evil to my people, your people, whoever. This is all I can do. I’m not a wicked man; I can’t strap up a bomb and do that shit. But with my music, this is how I fight. It’s my therapy. So, let me be, let me say what I wanna say. That’s all I’m saying.”

Only Built For Cuban Linx
by mikeyfresh (05/26/2008 - 19:21)
I don't know what the fuck RZA was doing with that bullshit ass . But that shit was terrible. These niggas Raekwon and Ghostface both denounced RZA's work on the LP; Ghostface complained that RZA was on some hard body guitar shit, saying that the rest of the Wu wasn't taking responsibility for that, as they were constantly leaving the studio unhappy after recording sessions. And Rae-- well he just plain, flat out dissed the whole project, blunt, open, and honest. And didn't care. RZA later responded to Raekwon, telling him to stop bitching and moaning and get back on his shit.
Well maybe if RZA had listened to his crew he would have accepted the fact that nobody wants to hear no boring ass crap like the shit he put together, and the audience these days want to hear tracks from cats like Kanye. The only people that bought that trash were die-hard Wu fans. So how are they going to get back on the grind with some wack ass beats to rhyme to? Not happening. 36 Chambers was cool but this day in age, Enter the Wu ain't rocking no more... except for in my stereo. And maybe a few others.'
On April 1st on SOHH, I did an April Fool's blog, saying that Raekwon was finally going to release his Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II on May 26th. Well, someone must've spread the word, cause I fooled quite a few people, and I even got the director for Staten Island rapper AC's video "Rae Told Me" {watch} thinking that Rae wanted him to direct the video for his new single, which was (supposedly) produced by Kanye West. This director, named Steven Tapia, told my boy that he was on cloud 9 when AC gave him the phonecall telling him the big news. He woke up his whole family to spread the word. But of course it was all a joke. Or like Biggie would say, "it was all a dream."
But suddenly, it's nearing May 26th, and Raekwon's "Necro" is spinning on the airwaves. This song, they say, is a joint from off of his OB4CL II.
http://www.zshare.net/audio/12029864d2d20a8a/ ---> Rae and Ghost-- "NECRO"
Ghostface came hard on his verse. Funny shit.
The hook is on-point. Now maybe RZA should take a few pointers and upgrade his shit.

www.Evilmonito.com
Evil Monito [EM] Magazine - www.evilmonito.com - was founded in 2001 by Rickey Y. Kim from his UC San Diego dorm room. While studying as a Communications Major, Kim recognized the need for an academically-oriented journal that discussed contemporary pop culture through intelligent dialogue. Out of necessity, Evil Monito was founded as an online magazine, an early pioneer of internet journalism that challenged the ‘traditional’ ways an online publication functioned

In Spring 2005, EM Magazine released Issue No. 21 and thereafter paused its online publications to shift the company as a whole from an editorial company to a branding/marketing service. EM began to work with a variety of lifestyle brands such as: Creative Recreation, Medicom Toy Corp, K-Swiss, Cassette, and Kangol, among others. This later resulted in various lifestyle co-branded products, which included (but was not limited to): footwear, headwear, denim, bicycles, vinyl toys and clothing. In mid 2007, Evil Monito officially established a brick-and-mortar building in Echo Park. This modular space was purposely designed to fulfill its clients’ needs, by hosting a variety of events ranging from film screenings, retail pop-up experiments, to live music performances.
May 2008 marks yet another symbolic transition for Evil Monito as it returns to its editorial roots. After a three-year hiatus, EM Issue No. 22, themed ‘Neighborhood Folk’, will delve into the idea of localization vs. globalization. Future issues will then be released on a bi-monthly basis while the website will remain as an active daily-content site discussing topic matter ranging from art, design, fashion, music, literature, to politics. Evil Monito Magazine will once again seek to provide honest dialogue and encourage critical thought and action.

Remy Ma Sentenced
by mikeyfresh (05/13/2008 - 22:52)
NYC judge gives rapper Remy Ma 8 years in prison
NEW YORK - A weeping Remy Ma, apologizing to her victim and pleading for leniency, was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday for shooting a woman outside a Manhattan nightclub.
“I feel so bad for all the physical and mental pain you’ve gone through,” the Grammy-nominated rapper told the victim. “This has taken a toll on us and both our families. I would never wish you harm and I pray the best for all of us.”
The entertainer, whose real name is Remy Smith, had faced up to 25 years in prison for assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion for shooting Makeda Barnes Joseph last July in a dispute over money.
The native New Yorker begged the judge for leniency for the sake of “my little boy,” saying she grew up “surrounded by failure, violence and poverty,” but “made something out of nothing” from her life.
State Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller said she recognized that Smith had had a difficult childhood but noted that the victim had nearly died and will never be the same physically. Uviller called the rapper “a young woman whose anger is out of control.”
After the sentencing, the singer’s fiance, fellow rapper Papoose, began screaming in a hallway outside the courtroom. “All you want is money!” he said, apparently referring to the victim.
“Lock me up! Lock me up!” he then shouted to court officers, who instead escorted him out of the courthouse.
The two rappers had been scheduled to get married over the weekend at the Rikers Island jail where Smith has been incarcerated.
Correction officials said they called off the wedding after Papoose showed up with a handcuff key.
Smith’s lawyer, Ivan Fisher, acknowledged that Papoose had a key but denied that it could be used to open handcuffs. Papoose, whose real is Shamele Mackie, has not been charged.
The fight last summer in Manhattan’s trendy Meatpacking District erupted after Smith accused Joseph of taking $2,000 from her purse.
Prosecutors said she then fired two .45-caliber slugs into the woman’s abdomen and fled in a Cadillac Escalade without ever calling police or for medical help.
Fisher, who has promised an appeal, said the two women struggled over the gun and it went off accidentally. He said Joseph’s story changed when her lawyer was preparing a $20 million lawsuit, which was later withdrawn.
Smith was nominated for a Grammy as part of the Terror Squad for the 2004 smash “Lean Back.” She has also appeared on recordings with Busta Rhymes and Eminem.
Fisher said the two still plan to wed, perhaps after the bride-to-be’s transfer to an upstate prison.

DUB MD PROMOTIONS & M.I.C. RECORDS PRESENTS
ROYCE DA 5'9"

On the strength of his 2006 album, Strategy of the Crown, which featured guests including Ras Kass, Trife Da God and Devin the Dude, J the S followed up with his DJ Vlad-hosted Year of the Snake Vol. 2. The sequel to his Peter Parker-hosted Vol. 1, the mixtape proved that he could rock consecutive projects with – or without – headliner associates. Featuring limited assists from Boston cronies such as Loose Notes and his own Greater Good crew, J the S gave fans enough original material to choke on until now.
He might be an anomaly, but J the S is poised to be a factor in roughneck Hip-Hop’s return to form. With his When in Rome (which will feature collaborations with fellow rising stars Skyzoo (“Pump”), Slaine (“Get Low” Remix) and Joell Ortiz (“Do You”) prequel this March and subsequent third album, The Last Days, coming next year, he is determined to penetrate rap music’s commercial consciousness. If he can pull it off in Boston, where pushing Golden Age street styles is less common than being a Republican, he can do it anywhere.

Dilla Lives On
by mikeyfresh (05/07/2008 - 07:14)
More often then none, the hundreds of mixtapes that are released on a daily basis all across America today are nothing more then compilations of unreleased, new, or best of tracks that aren’t anywhere near “mixed”. Well, Statik Selektah and Q-tip have just dropped a gem on us. The Look of Love(Hip-Hop is Alive) ,is a tribute to one of Hip-Hop’s fallen soldiers and most influential producers, J-Dilla. Stat and Q-tip could have just dug up a bunch of unreleased Dilla tracks or even remixed some of his joints, but instead they cleverly created a concept and killed it.
Almost like a rejuvenation for J-Dilla, classics from artists like De La Soul, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, and Common flow together like an actual album. The songs revolve around the central theme of love. The kind of love you have for Hip-Hop not any thing you can compare to how much you love grandma’s Sunday dinners, or love or any girl/guy, I don’t care what you say. Dilla was a cat that nevermind the cliché was regarded as a “producer’s producer” by legends like DJ premier, Rza, and Dr.Dre. I mean if you are new to Hip-Hop and aren’t familiar with Dilla’s work, you might mistake his production as a Kanye, a Hi-tek, or anybody doing their thing in Hip-Hop right now. J-Dilla was just that dude.
The look of Love is the kind of mixtape that takes you back to the very moment when you fell in love with Hip-Hop. The feeling was so genuine and pure songs like “I used to love H.E.R.” by Common, “The Love” from Tribe, and “Love Song” by Mos Def almost make you feel like your celebrating Hip-Hop not just “walkin it out” or “snappin yo fingers”.Being the fact that Dilla produced the majority of tracks on here, shows his legacy and impact that he has had on the “love of my life”(track 18). I don’t know, it was just something about his homegrown production that was better then any 808’s, synthesizers, or claps could ever be. Dilla has always been an under-recognized but never under-appreciated type of producer. Making his debut with
Slum
Village
when he was still known as Jay Dee, Dilla went on to give us some of the most heartfelt, influential, and innovative music Hip-Hop has ever heard.

NINO BLESS RELEASES UNTOLD SCRIPTURES ON 5-20-08
UNTOLD SCRIPTURES FEATURES APPEARANCES BY JOE BUDDEN, JOELL ORTIZ, STYLES P, KOOL G RAP, SAIGON, CROOKED I, GRAFH AND PRODUCTION FROM SCRAM JONES, BLACKOUT MOVEMEN & FOCUS
Following the strong response to the posse track "3rd Degree" and the new street leak "Da Livest", Nino Bless sets out to release the long-anticipated street-LP, Untold Scriptures, on 5-20-08. "I have notable veterans of the game helping me push this project, including Big Mike, Mick Boogie, & J Love." The street-LP runs 19 tracks deep with features from Styles P, Joe Budden, Kool G Rap, Saigon, Crooked I, Joell Ortiz & Grafh. Original production from Focus (Aftermath), Scram Jones, Veterano, & Blackout Movement sets the backdrop for the mixtape for the Puerto Rican MC out of Brooklyn, NY.
"I put this together like an album with 19 joints – and the majority of them are full length records," Bless says. "So far, the response has been dope. At this moment I have to keep it going and I think this is a good representation of what I can bring to the table." However, Nino isn't stopping with Untold Scriptures as he plans to release another project at the end of this year. "Crooked I and myself are setting up to drop a mixtape towards the end of the year. Dow Jones from The Bizness is going to chip in with some beats and help put the project together along with somebody else; we ain't sure who yet but it'll be from the east coast."
With all these things in the works things are looking good for this young prospect. Untold Scriptures will be online for free on May 20th and there will be a "Limited Edition" version which will be sold through many outlets, both in stores and digitally; and for the fans that want to support the music now you can buy records on www.beatsource.com.

The Game mad at NYC? Will He Kiss & Makeup Wit Us?

From the big homey Reckless at sohh.com : http://blogs.sohh.com/nyc/archives/2008/05/the_game_needs_to_stay_in_his.html
I respect the fact that The Game went and made a record in protest of the NYPD acquittal in the Sean Bell case. We are all very upset and deeply disturbed by the judge's decision, so although "911 is a Joke" is a joke itself-- as it sounds to me like a mediocre record and desperate attempt at controversy-- there are a couple of a lines I do agree with. But this arrogant asshole, who seems to carry this reeking, nasty, I-run-New-York attitude every time he steps into town, is getting a bit besides himself. Apparently he's still holding on to that "300 Bars" joint that preceded the Jamaica Avenue G-Unot billboard.
"Man if that happened in L.A., do you know you could see smoke form the hills?" he asked. "You look into the city, you'd see smoke and everything would be on fire. I don't know why New York is so quiet and I don't know if New York being quiet isn't the right thing to do."
First and foremost, this is NOT the 1992 L.A Riots. We know you think you were a part of the looting that Dr. Dre rapped about in "The Day the N*ggaz Took Over"... but you're not. Second of all, L.A has it's own issues. Instead of talking about what South Central would be doing had the Sean Bell incident occurred there, you might want to talk about THIS (very graphic) VIDEO that hit the net a couple of months ago.
In it, the LAPD is caught on a camera phone chasing and shooting numerous bullets at an unarmed black man on L.A's Crenshaw Boulevard. And on the ground you can see him viciously kicking and squirming on the pavement. I can't even count how many bullets I heard pop off. And in addition to that, while these cops were aimlessly and sloppily busting caps at homie, they totally and completely ignored the fact that there were innocent bystanders-- and drivers-- in the mix. And loose bullets have no name on them.
The victim, named Maurice L. Cox Jr., died after being hit with several bullets-- from several guns. And the family is filing a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the LAPD. And you can bet they'll lose. And if they took the cops to court in hopes of giving them time, they'd lose that battle, too. And L.A wouldn't do a thing about it.
"Police shot Cox multiple times in what the family's attorney, Carl Douglas, called "contagious fire," as Cox tried to flee after his pickup struck a tree on Crenshaw Boulevard, near Slauson Avenue, on March 1. Douglas said that when officers heard other officers shooting, they opened fire as well."
Jayonce
by mikeyfresh (05/01/2008 - 22:19)
Jay-z knows better then other emcees that the “streets is talking”; newspapers, magazines, and blogs all like are buzzing about Jay’s and Beyonce’s (Jayonce) alleged wedding that took place in France last month. The pair remains to be Hip-Hop’s most public, yet most mysterious relationship. Paparazzi cameras have been snapping pictures of the two love birds since 2005 and wedding rumors have run rampant since early in 2006. Yet both Jay and Beyonce give little information to media when asked if the two will wed, or even if they are officially engaged, when questioned by US Magazine about marriage Jay simply replied, “One day soon — let's leave it at that.”
The two A-lister’s are also sharing more then just marriage rumors, Beyonce continued to reign supreme in the female R&B world, with multiple Grammy nods, a big-screen success, and several chart-topping hits all before the end of 2007. Jay the “retired” rapper scored with a platinum album, another opening of his 40/40 clubs in Las Vegas, and heading his duties as President of Def Jam Records. The combined success of each of their careers has earned them the role as Hip-Hop’s leading power couple. Of course coming with the territory, are weekly rumors of matching tattoos, infidelity on Jay’s part, and even break ups keep the public wondering what really goes when Jay an Be are seen walking hand and hand in the South of France. When Beyonce was asked about a recent photo that was supposedly taken from Paparazzi at her private wedding, she told Instyle Magazine, “"It looks like a nice wedding - and very expensive," Beyonce said about the wedding photo. "Unfortunately, it's not true." She also has been quick to reject any marriage rumors and remains to uphold the reputation that she is fully focused on her career above all. According to her publicist, Beyonce is still only 26 years old, and has no plans of slowing down her professional life anytime soon. Ms. Knowles has given little as to when she might be ready to actually tie the knot and almost sounds as if she isn’t quite sure Jay is ready to commit, "You can't rush a man into anything -- whether it's a relationship, marriage or having children. When he's ready he'll let you know.", Beyonce (January issue of Instyle Magazine).
Perhaps the longevity and success of their relationship can be attributed to their constant cover of privacy, Jay revealed in a rare interview with Robin Leach that when something does happen, “it will be kept a private serious celebration for our very closest family and friends. When it does happen, we’ll keep it very quiet. One is clear. Jay-z and Beyonce areshowing no signs of slowing down their careers and, even if they were, they probably wouldn’t tell us anyway. Jay’s not retired no matter, what he tries to say. The duo has the combined powers of popularity, success, and most importantly the capital to take over where Russell and Kimora left off.
