    Cubano

    by mikeyfresh (03/31/2008 - 08:02)

Fidel Castro has finally fallen from his dictatorship position and millions of Cubans from Miami to Havana have a new feeling of hope on their sides. Always vocal of his opposition of Cuba’s former leader, Pitbull puts his beliefs on his tongue, so everybody can hear the truth.

Mikey: Pitbull you’ve always been a somewhat outspoken leader of the Hispanic Hip-Hop community, and you’ve previously voiced your opinions on Cuba’s for leader Fidel Castro, what are your thoughts on Cuba finally announcing his resignation?

Pitbull: I think Castro’s whole story has been strategically put together; the one thing that he is no,t is stupid. I believe he’s been dead from the time that he gave Rual power which was supposed to be temporary. If you noticed they made the announcement at like 3 o’clock in the morning to avoid an uprising or up roar by the people.

Mikey: How does this affect the Cuban-American population in the States?

Pitbull:: It definitely affects all Cuban Americans and not just us, but everybody living in the Caribbean. Think about it, if Cuba was to open up for export and trade, the revenue that would be generated from the country would be huge. They just don’t care because there is no oil in Cuba, but now with Ethanol being an up-coming natural gas and sugarcane being one of the main producers of Ethanol, the possiblites are endless for Cuba.

Mikey: Is there a sense of relief that you are feeling now or a feeling of re-birth for Cuba?

Pitbull: We just really wanted to know that he was out of power, but as far as being free as a people, we are far from that. It’s just the first step in the right direction, even though Raul is also a piece of shit. (laughs)

Mikey:  What about the up-coming election here in America, Who are you going to vote for?

Pitbull:: What’s beautiful about the election this year is that they are making history and motivating the young voters to contribute to change things. I do get motivated when I hear Obama speak because he admits that he’s human and can’t do everything right. Hilary was my choice in the beginning, but Obama has just related to the people so much. We’ve never been more ready for a minority for a president.

T.I. plead guilty to all his charges and only received a year of prison time, 1000 hours of community service, and a $100,000 fine. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.

    Public School

    by mikeyfresh (03/26/2008 - 03:43)

In an era where every kid with a photo illustrator thinks he/she has a brand, former Sean John creative forces Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osbourne present Public School – a lifestyle brand combining the aesthetics of urban America and elegance found in such brands as Nom De Guerre. Public School’s detail oriented collection is suitable for fashion week in Paris and the Wu-Tang concert in Brooklyn. The duo that helped transform Sean John from another wretched “rapper clothing line” to a multi-million dollar brand with boutiques in the entire world’s fashion capitols have brought some class back to urban menswear.

Debuting for the Spring/Summer 08’ season, Public School is flavored with only the original and eclectic styles that are found in the institutions from which it’s name is derived. The never-ending quest for knowledge is the underlying theme for the brand, and represents both the teachers and students. The Public School systems have produced some of the most profound artists and overall influential personalities in every aspect of art and culture. Chow and Osbourne’s collective creation concentrates heavily on details and is produced with only the highest tier of materials. From leather vests, polo’s, denim and everything in between, the coveted title of being considered a streetwear brand would almost be in insult to the company. What they bring is street credible fashion that doesn’t suffer in style.

Imagine yourself as a buyer walking down aisles and aisles of booths at the bi-annual Magic convention in Las Vegas – you’ve seen Biggie on a hundred tees, all-over prints that resemble Warhol impersonations gone wrong, and so-called vintage leather and denim. Mind numbing or eye numbing to say the least, but at the very last booth you see Public School, your eyes almost tear as you encounter denim that’s up to par with Kuroki Japan’s finest, intricate stitching on outerwear that is way to fresh to be worn only outdoors, and buttery leathers slick enough to grease any pan. Public School is the new rebellion.

    Belly of the Beast

    by mikeyfresh (03/25/2008 - 05:42)

Belly is Canada’s self-proclaimed “Godfather”. Well, maybe more like the John Gotti of Ottawa; The Palestinian born, Canadian bred emcee combines the political awareness of Immortal Technique and club swagger of Fat Joe. Whether speaking his rhymes about the violence going on in the Middle-East or the girls at the club last night, Belly has the ability to drop gems without boring the listener, “Everybody has their fun moments and serious moments; I put it all in my music. From the party life, struggle, political, and the come up, I’m living what I speak about in my music.”, says Belly short for rebellious.

Since 2003, when Belly became the 1st Canadian rapper to collaborate with a US DJ (Kool Kid) to drop a mixtape, the rebellious kid has collaborated with the likes of Scarface, Fabolous, and Ginuwine, toured nationally with Snoop and Ice Cube, and dropped numerous hit songs  topping Canadian charts, this all leading up to the release of his solo debut, “The album is called The Revolution, it’s a new perspective of Hip-Hop . Being that I am Palestinian and from Canada.  I’m bringing a different set of struggles and stories to the game. Nobody has ever seen this side of Hip-Hop before, explains Belly while in New York City on business. Still Belly isn’t satisfied with his regional fame and recognition, he has a full length-album on the way with gangsta-rap legend Kurupt and upcoming tour dates in Paris, Germany and the Middle-East, “Growing up, if you’re aspiring to be a Hip-Hop artist  “making it” in New York is the ultimate dream.  If you ain’t big in New York, you aint big yet, explains Belly
